Year 12 students at a Victorian school will have four weeks to upload all of their work to an online system, then they’ll be left to their own devices until they sit their exams.

Colmont School (formerly known as Kilmore International School) collapsed into administration last week leaving students in limbo, with years three to 10 given just two days notice before their classes ended.

Year 12 students will be taught for another four weeks and then will have to sit their exams at another school.

Jane Lamb, whose daughter is one of those year 12 students, says families of students in their final years of school are “just so desperate”.

“They’ve given them four weeks and then they’ll basically be abandoned. There will be no school, no teachers, they’re on their own until they go to another school and sit their exams,” she told Neil Mitchell.

“There’s no representation from the government or from the Independent Schools Association. There’s nothing. We just feel like we’re getting no assistance.”

Students at the school undertake the International Baccalaureate, instead of VCE, and subjects some Colmont School students are studying are not available at any other school in the state.

Meanwhile, the parent of a year 7 student who attended the now closed Colmont School says he can’t find a single school in the area that can take his son.

“I’ve called about 14 or 15 schools and everyone has told me the same thing,” Ahmed told Neil Mitchell.

“He’s missing out on the education he should be getting.

“There are lots and lots of parents who are gathered outside the school with their kids who are facing the same issue.”
