Brisbane co-captain Lachie Neale has conceded his 2023 finals campaign was the worst of his glittering career.

In a remarkable admission ahead of a season where the Lions are hoping to go one better following their Grand Final appearance last year, Neale said he has spent the summer reflecting and looking for ways to improve.

“That finals series in 2023 was probably the worst of my career,” he told Sam McClure and Matthew Lloyd on Wide World of Sports.

“I went away and reflected on that, I was pretty hurt to be honest with my performances all up.

“I’ve reflected and thought I didn’t prepare myself for different situations (during the games), The biggest learning was to expect the unexpected in those big games, for me I felt like I probably didn’t prepare as mentally and physically well enough to embrace those challenges.”
