New eye drop could allow millions to ditch reading glasses
An eye drop which could mean millions of people don’t need to wear glasses has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The eye drop improves close-range vision, and could replace reading glasses for up to six hours at a time for people with presbyopia.
“Everyone at some point is going to need reading glasses and for most people that is between the ages of 40 and 50,” Founder and chief optometrist at BeSpoke Vision, Dr Selina McGee, told 3AW Breakfast.
“That is what this drop is going to help.”
The drop works by making the pupil smaller. A 50 per cent reduction in the size of the pupil halves the blur in vision experienced by people with presbyopia.
It can last up to six hours and works about 15 minutes after application.
