Police confirm arrest of Mernda man over allegedly producing firearm

Police have confirmed they’ve arrested a 26-year-old Mernda man on Tuesday afternoon.

The male allegedly produced a firearm and pointed it at police, with a second firearm allegedly being found after the arrest.

They later attended a residential address in Gumleaf Avenue, when there house was evacuated and the Bomb Response Unit are still currently on scene.

Caller Mary early alerted 3AW Drive to the incident, which saw Mernda Central College go into lockdown for an estimated 20 minutes.
