Debate continues to rage about why Prime Minister Anthony Albanese opted to avoid holding a press conference with Premier Jacinta Allan during the election campaign on Wednesday.

With both the PM and opposition leader Peter Dutton campaigning in Victoria, many expected Mr Albanese to be joined by Ms Allan on the campaign trail.

Joining Jacqui Felgate in the studio as part of the Pre-Election Section, both Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume weighed in on the divisive issue.

Press PLAY to hear Richard Marles and Jane Hume’s thoughts

“This is ultimately an election between Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton,” Mr Marles said on 3AW Drive.

Ms Hume disagreed, saying the Victorian Premier is “on the nose” at the moment.

“(Anthony Albanese) won’t stand next to Jacinta Allan and that’s because she’s on the nose,” she said.
