The rate of aggravated residential burglaries in Victoria has increased by 30 per cent, and those committed by children aged 10 to 14 have surged a staggering 86.7 per cent, according to new Crime Statistics Agency for the year to March.

Victoria police deputy commissioner of regional operations, Rick Nugent, says the issue “went to a whole new level” mid-way through last year.

He told Neil Mitchell the shift in the vehicles targeted for car thefts explains the skyrocketing aggravated burglary rate.
