Tom Elliott thinks the idea to shut down coal and gas fired power stations in order to rely solely on renewables is a “pipe dream”.

The 3AW Mornings host stated it’s not “scientifically possible” unless nuclear power comes into play.

“To think that within just a few short years we can eliminate the two power sources, coal and gas, which as we speak provides 80 per cent of our electricity is ridiculous, it is simply not going to happen,” he said.

Energy Analyst at Green Energy Markets, Tristan Edis, told Tom Elliott “there is no point pretending” renewable energy will be sufficient all year round.

“There is an absolutely reality, there are going to be several days in a row in winter, when we’re going to need something other than wind, solar and batteries,” Mr Edis said.
