The Pacific Koel has become increasingly common in Melbourne’s outer suburbs, after previously being rarely spotted. And it was initially only males.

“Now we’re getting evidence the females are arriving and they’re actually mating,” Sean Dooley, editor of BirdLife Australia, told Ross and Russel.

“We’re getting chicks that are Victoria-born now and they’ll return to the land of their birth each summer.”
