National Party leader David Littleproud has warned meat would soon become unaffordable for many Australians, should the Labor government implement a methane tax on farmers.

Australia is set to pledge its support to reduce global methane emissions by 30 per cent by 2030, with the Nationals warning the tax would cripple the industry and send the cost of meat soaring.

“That’s quite frightening for Australian agriculture, but it should also be quite frightening for everybody out there when they go to the supermarket,” Mr Littleproud said on 3AW.
