Why sustained support for Daniel Andrews shouldn’t come as any surprise
A political analyst says sustained support for Daniel Andrews in political polls shouldn’t come as a surprise to Victorians, despite vocal criticism in the community about how the COVID-19 pandemic has been handled by the state government.
Dr Zareh Ghazarian, politics lecturer in the School of Social Sciences at Monash University, told Tom Elliott the poll support simply reflected global trends.
He said voters had shown themselves to be hesitant to change government since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
“There is some growing research in other parts of the world that during times of crisis, and particularly COVID, that voters are happy to keep the status quo,” he said.
Dr Ghazarian cited evidence in Western Australia, Queensland and Tasmania to support his case.
