Why some Victorian truck drivers are threatening to go on strike
Victorian tip-truck drivers have threatened to go on strike next Monday, unless government acts on soaring fuel prices.
Victorian Tippers United is leading the action.
The state government’s cost model is set at $1.40 a litre.
Ricky told 3AW Mornings drivers were being expected to absorb the rest of the cost, which significantly impacts their take-home pay.
Diesel prices are now well over $2 a litre.
“We can’t recoup any of our costs and there is no mechanism in place for us to even think about recouping any of those costs,” he said.

Nick McIntosh, National Assistant Secretary at the Transport Workers Union, said the issue was a source of great frustration.
“The TWU has always said there needs to be a tribunal in place that is able to move costs,” he said.
Mr McIntosh said that existed at a federal level, previously, but was terminated by the Turnbull government in 2016.
“Nothing has been put in its place,” he said.
