Why Rory Sloane wasn’t surprised Sam Darcy avoided ACL injury

Western Bulldogs forward Sam Darcy has remarkably avoided an ACL tear, but still faces months on the sidelines with a knee fracture and ligament damage.
The Dogs initially feared the worst after the 208cm talent landed awkwardly in the first quarter of Sunday night’s clash against St Kilda.
But Adelaide legend Rory Sloane said he wasn’t surprised Darcy avoided an ACL tear after observing two similar incidents during his playing days.

“I’ve seen this mechanism happen a couple of times,” he said on 3AW Football.
“That hyperextension motion I saw Josh Jenkins and Paul Seedsman do … they both got told they did an ACL and they came back (without tearing it).”
Sports medicine clinician, Dr Peter Brukner, said Darcy avoiding an ACL tear was the most uncommon of all the options that could have been revealed with scans.
“Clearly his ACL is nice and strong,” he said.
