A group of more than a dozen principals have written to Victoria’s education authorities calling for the ATAR to be scrapped.

Former principal and education expert Adam Voigt says the measurement is becoming more and more irrelevant.

“It’s become a pretty blunt tool. It’s something universities aren’t using as much as they used to,” he told Ross and Russel.

“The world has changed and in particular universities have changed.

“About 50 per cent of kids go to university, about 26 per cent of them get in directly on their ATAR, so it’s only 13 per cent of kids go to university based on their ATAR alone.”
