Why police were called to a council meeting in Melbourne’s west
A council meeting in Melbourne’s west got a bit heated overnight after audience members yelled objections to a report of a potential LGBTQI action plan which resulted in police being called.
Brimbank mayor Bruce Lancashire says there’s nothing contentious about the plan but they anticipated the strong reaction and had hired security guards.
“It was a bit hard to know what people were objecting to. They were just yelling out in the meeting and being disruptive and making comments along the lines of objecting to the report,” he told Neil Mitchell.
