Federal opposition leader Peter Dutton admits Labor Party advertising may be having an effect on his opinion polls as election day looms.

A YouGov poll released last week shows Labor hold a commanding lead over the Coalition ahead of the May 3 election.

And Mr Dutton conceded a big-money ad campaign against him may be having an impact on his numbers.

“The election is going to come down to who people trust to manage the economy and keep people safe,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“The Labor Party has probably spent north of $20 million throwing mud at me over the last few weeks and that will have an impact (on opinion polls).”
