There are fears the $15bn Metro Tunnel’s opening could be delayed until 2026 as a result of delays to the completion of five new stations.

As revealed in parliament documents on Thursday, the new stations are expected to be handed over to transport authorities 12 months later than scheduled.

“Is it possible that we can get anything done on time and on budget in this state,” Jacqui Felgate questioned on 3AW Drive.

“When it comes to the government, it’s a free for all and there’s no penalty.”

Shadow Minister for Major Projects and Transport Infrastructure David Southwick said he was concerned the government could potentially compromise safety by rushing through the opening date of the tunnel.
