Melbourne’s iconic food scene is at breaking point, with a leading restaurateur admitting he’ll be reviewing the viability of his well-known eateries in the coming weeks.

Staff shortages continue to cripple the sector.

Shane Delia told Neil Mitchell it simply wasn’t sustainable.

“We can’t keep absorbing these costs,” he said.

Neil Mitchell spoke with several small business owners on Wednesday.

John’s family has been running cafes for four decades and said staffing issues were not getting any better, despite claims from politicians they would.

“Never in our 40 years have we had to take measures like we have today,” he said.

“It’s not a skills shortage, or staff shortage, it is a canyon.”
