Why Leigh Matthews wouldn’t re-sign Brendon Goddard

Leigh Matthews says he wouldn’t offer Brendon Goddard a contract extension.

The Essendon veteran reiterated his desire to play on at a press conference on Thursday.

Matthews was asked on Sportsday whether the Bombers should offer him another year.

“I’d say no,” Matthews said on 3AW.

“But I’m going largely on last week.

“I thought Brendon was really poor against Hawthorn.

“I thought he looked old, sluggish and slow.”
