The rise of processed foods in recent decades with “strong flavours” is the reason fruit, vegetables and for some people, water, don’t seem to taste as nice as foods that aren’t so good for us.

Tom Elliott was interested to find out why humans didn’t seem to be hardwired to enjoy foods that were vital to a healthy life.

Nutritionist Fiona Kane said that wasn’t always the case.

“I think that things taste different now because we are exposed to so many ultra processed foods,” she said.
