Plenty of research is going into the rate of concussion among female footballers and whether they’re more susceptible to injury than their male counterparts.

Tom Elliott heard one theory from Dr Paul Smith, clinical director at Epworth Medical Imaging in Geelong.

He says women are far more likely to report an injury than men and that could be behind the higher rates.

“That’s certainly a significant contributor,” Dr Smith explained.
