Essendon held their nerve on Saturday night, withstanding a spirited Melbourne effort in the third quarter to cruise to a 39-point win.

It means Brad Scott’s side has won their last two games, steadying the ship after a slow start to the season.

3AW Breakfast sports reporter Jon Anderson said the victory at Adelaide Oval was “significant” for a few reasons.

“Essendon has Melbourne’s first draft pick next year,” he told Jimmy Bartel and Mark Allen.

“But more so, there was obvious development in some of their players that we haven’t seen.”
