Why Essendon’s public messaging is still frustrating Matthew Lloyd
Matthew Lloyd says Essendon seemingly being in constant rebuild is leaving him frustrated.
The Bombers haven’t finished higher than seventh since 2002, while they haven’t won a final since 2004.
While backing the club’s current off-season strategy – which is seeing them prioritise the draft for the next two years – Lloyd admits the club’s public messaging was starting to wear thin.

“My frustration of mine with the Bombers for a decade is it never seems to be their time,” he said on 3AW Football’s trade podcast.
“It’s never ‘we should be top four’, and now they’re pretty much factoring going to the draft for the next two years and there’s nothing wrong with that.
“But it seems they’re starting from the ground up again.”
