Why Djokovic might not play in the Australian Open, even if he wins his court battle
A leading lawyer thinks Novak Djokovic is likely to win his visa court battle, but says that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be playing in the Australian Open.
Media and litigation lawyer at Thomson Gear Lawyers, Justin Quill, says he’s “pretty confident” the world number one will win the case.
“But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be playing,” he told Emily Power and Jimmy Bartel.
“What will then happen is it’ll be sent back to the Minister for Home Affairs to consider whether or not they make another decision to cancel his visa.”
The Federal Court will this morning hear the case for Novak Djokovic to stay in Australia, but Mr Quill says he doesn’t expect the case to wrap up today.
“I don’t think today is going to be the end of this saga.”
