New evidence suggests saltwater crocodiles in the Northern Territory are hungrier for land-based meat than ever before, shifting away from marine prey in favour of animals such as cows and feral pigs.

But will they target humans next?

Grahame Webb, one of Australia’s most prominent crocodile scientists, said there was no doubt more animals were being taken than previous decades.

But he says population is the driving factor.

“The big thing that has changed is that there is so many more crocodiles,” he told Ross and Russel.

It led to a debate about whether you’d rather be attacked by a shark or crocodile.
