Why Chinese censorship reports ‘prove the point’ of activists

Activists who will hand out at least 1000 ‘Where Is Peng Shuai’ shirts at the Australian Open say reports China will censor the women’s final because of it “prove” the point they’re making.

Drew Pavlou, who is an independent candidate for the Senate, told Neil Mitchell it contradicted Chinese government claims Peng Shuai was safe and well.

“Well, if she is safe and fine then why would they have to censor the Australian Open final because people are wearing shirts saying ‘Where Is Peng Shuai’,” he said.

“It completely proves our point.”
