A new study conducted by the Australian Gambling Research Centre has found betting is being normalised through the increase of gambling advertisements with two in five Australian adults gambling weekly and almost half of those considered at risk of gambling harm.

Rebecca Jenkinson, co-author of the study and Manager of the Australian Gambling Research Centre, is particularly concerned with the harm betting advertisements are having on the younger generation.

“It’s not the gambling per say, it’s the harm that we’re concerned about,” Ms Jenkinson told Ross and Russel.

“Exposure was leading to riskier betting behaviour, especially among young people.”
