Why Australians should be ‘alarmed’ by lack of GPs entering the work force
There is an “alarming” shortage of general practitioners entering the Australian work force, according to the Victorian chair of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Clinics across Australia are crying out for more staff.
Dr Anita Muñoz said there were plenty of students studying medicine.
“Unfortunately, the trend is that only 15 per cent of those medical graduates are intending to enter general practice,” she explained on 3AW.
“As time goes on, we’ve got an alarming lack of general practitioners entering the Australian work force.”
