Australian swimming great Giaan Rooney is optimstic about Kyle Chalmers’ chance of winning 100m freestyle gold in Paris.

Chalmers came from the clouds to claim the gold medal in Rio, while he was beaten by American rival Caeleb Dressel and had to settle for silver in Tokyo three years ago.

Rooney told Shane McInnes on The Olympics Today that Chalmers’ chances of winning a second Olympic gold will come down to which lane he qualifies in for the much-anticipated final.

“I’m very excited about Kyle Chalmers’ chances in Paris,” she said on The Olympics Today podcast.

“He has said this will be his last Olympics…his greatest strength is he’s the best racer I’ve ever seen. This (100m freestyle final) will come down to where he’s placed in that final.”
