An economist says it’s likely the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) will pause interest rate hikes at its next meeting in April.

It comes after the cash rate to rose to 3.6 per cent on Tuesday, the highest it’s been in 11 years.

Economist and managing director of Market Economics, Stephen Koukoulas, told Neil Mitchell there’s signs the economy is slowing down.

“I guess (the RBA) are now taking a step back, ” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“And if the next couple of weeks of data on retail sales, on jobs, if they’re a little bit weaker, they will pause in April and probably beyond.”
