Who is legally entitled to an engagement ring when love sours? Family law expert has his say on the situation
The rules of engagement are being tested in the County Court of Victoria, where builder Constantinos Hatzis is demanding his former fiancée return a two-carat diamond ring and other jewellery worth more than $100,000.
Head of family law at Lander & Rogers Mark Parker provided his insight on this situation on 3AW Breakfast.

“The law generally is that an engagement ring is a conditional gift.” Parker said on 3AW Breakfast.
“If it’s a short relationship a court is going to be much more inclined to give back an engagement ring, but longer the relationship the less likely the court’s going to return it.”
