Whitehorse Council forks out up to $200,000 on book to detail relationship with Japanese city
A council in Melbourne’s east has come under fire for a decision to spend up to $200,000 on a book detailing the council’s ongoing relationship with a city in Japan.
The Leader reported Whitehorse Council would fork out the money which would record the history of the 50-year connection with Matsudo.
3AW Drive host Nick McCallum questioned if ratepayers would support the move.
Whitehorse mayor Andrew Davenport said council had thought long and hard about how to celebrate the relationship.
“We felt that to record the historical perspective of our relationship that a book would be the best way forward to celebrate that history and also document that history for years to come,” Cr Davenport said.
