A sign being shown at recent CBD protests captured Neil Mitchell’s attention this week.

It warned drivers they could be fined for tooting their horn in support of those rallying.

It turns out there is a very specific legal use of a vehicle horn.

It must be an “emergency” situation where you need to inform another driver, pedestrian or animal that you’re about to hit them.

“I believe it’s about $161 and there might even be a demerit point, as well,” Chris Miller said on 3AW when asked about the penalty for breaking that law.
