‘What’s going on?’: Tom Elliott slams the state government amid youth crime ‘crisis’ in Victoria

Tom Elliott has taken the state government to task over plans to increase the age of responsibility in Victoria from 10 to 14-years-old and also to relax bail laws.
Elliott cited three examples in recent weeks where young suspects have allegedly committed crimes, but have since been released on bail.
“Relaxing bail laws and going soften on young criminals is definitely the wrong path, and yet it’s the path the state government is taking,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

Lecturer in Criminology, Dr Joel McGregor, who works closely with youth who have been impacted by the justice system, then joined the program and didn’t quite see eye-to-eye with Tom Elliott.
“Having a blanket rule for all young people is just not the way to go,” Dr McGregor told Tom Elliott.
