Tom Elliott has announced what he would prioritise if he was running for lord mayor of Melbourne.

It comes after current lord mayor Nicholas Reece said if he was elected in October, he would create up to 30 “city safety officers”, who would patrol the city with stab-proof vests and body-cams.

“Any plan that makes Melbourne a friendlier and better place, I think is good,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

Reece then spoke on 3AW Mornings about his plan to enhance safety in the CBD, with Elliott questioning him on how the city safety officers would operate.

He outlined how the powers of the officers would be different to that of Protective Services Officers.

“They’ll be a very visible safety and security presence on the street,” Reece said.
