What Tom Elliott found ‘appalling’ about ANZAC Day blockbuster
The on-field action between Collingwood and Essendon was thrilling on ANZAC Day, but there was an aspect of the pre-game ceremony which Tom Elliott didn’t like.
The 3AW Mornings host took issue with the lack of players singing the national anthem when it was played before the match.
“You should sing the national anthem if you’re Australian when it’s played,” he said on 3AW.

“Embarrassingly one of the most obvious singers of the anthem was the American player Mason Cox. The fact that only a quarter of the players on the ground bothered to sing (the anthem) I thought was appalling.”
Former player Jason Akermanis says it’s “unfathomable” players don’t singing the national anthem before a big game.
