What Neil Mitchell thinks the AFL ‘got wrong’ about Anzac Day match
Neil Mitchell says the AFL did a “great” job with the Anzac Day match between Essendon and Collingwood, but they got it wrong with the pre-game entertainment.
Australian band Lime Cordiale performed prior to the clash at the MCG.
Neil Mitchell “didn’t mind their performance at all” but says there’s no place for an act like that on Anzac Day.
“Why have a group like that on Anzac Day? Why not have some songs from the times? Why not some World War II or World War I songs even?,” the 3AW Mornings host said.
“As good as they are, it wasn’t the time or place.”

@AFL this is quite possibly the most unnecessary and disrespectful display I’ve ever witnessed. Not sure a band was required on and before ANZAC day.

All for showcasing Aussie talent like Lime Cordiale but it’s ANZAC Day, surely someone singing a song dedicated to the reverence of the day should be an option?? #AFLDonsPies

Lime Cordiale might be a good Aussie Triple J band.. but not for Anzac Day.. AFL has missed the mark on this one #afldonspies #AnzacDay
