One of the panel members who sat on Sunday night’s heated leaders’ debate says it’s become crystal clear Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese are campaigning on character ahead of the federal election.

And it’s not serving either of them particularly well.

The duo traded several verbal barbs throughout the debate on Channel 9.

“In the end, both of these men have made this contest pretty much all about character and one of the things I thought was revealing about last night was their character,” Chris Uhlmann told Neil Mitchell.

He said polling had shown it was “self-evident” many Australians found the choice between Mr Morrison and Mr Albanese an “unpalatable” one.

“They have a choice, to put in its baldest terms, between somebody they don’t know and somebody they don’t much like,” he said.
