‘Went bananas’: Melbourne-bound flight turned around due to unruly passenger

A unruly passenger has been handcuffed after he attempted to bash down the cockpit door on a flight between Perth and Melbourne on Monday.

Virgin Australia has confirmed a report on 3AW’s Rumour File that VA696 had to turn back to Perth Airport just an hour into take off as a result of the incident in the air.

“A male passenger suddenly went bananas running up and down the aisle and bashing on the cockpit door,” the Rumour File caller said on 3AW.

“Two air marshals had to restrain and handcuff the individual.”

A Australian Federal Police (AFP) spokesperson said later on Tuesday the man was transferred to hospital after he was arrested after he “allegedly ran naked through the aircraft mid-flight and knocked a crew member to the floor”.
