‘We need more’: Victorian AMA boss warns ‘various targets’ unlikely to be met
The new Victorian president of the Australian Medical Association says she hasn’t seen evidence to support the state opposition’s claim that there’s a $1bn cut to healthcare in the budget, but there’s “not a lot of joy” there.
Victorian AMA president Jill Tomlinson told Neil Mitchell the drop in spending on health workforce training and development will hurt the healthcare system.

“That’s going to drop from about $497 million spend in this current financial year to $440 million, and I think we can all agree that at the moment we don’t need less investment in the health workforce, we need more,” she said.
“I don’t think we’re going to see various targets met.”
