Washed out: Victoria’s spud season in doubt
Heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of the state is being blamed for a looming potato shortage.
Thorpdale potato farmer Des Jennings told 3AW Breakfast potato prices were through the roof.
‘It’s a combination of quite a few things – primarily a few things, it’s been too wet,’ he said.
‘The potato production areas at this time of year are just too wet to harvest they can’t get potatoes out of the ground.
‘The price of potatoes is sky high, higher than I’ve ever seen it.’
