With the temperature expected to soar to 31 degrees tomorrow, Melburnians are being urged to check the water quality before swimming in Port Phillip.

The Environmental Protection Authority rates the water quality today at Werribee, South Melbourne, Port Melbourne and Carrum as unsuitable for swimming, while water quality at many other beaches is rated “fair” and may not be suitable for swimming.

Chief environmental scientist at the EPA, Professor Mark Taylor, told 3AW Mornings beachgoers there “could be faeces” in the water, so it’s wise look for signs of pollution before jumping in!
