Strict entry conditions imposed for Mebourne Victory matches
Strict conditions of entry will apply at Melbourne Victory matches in coming weeks as investigations continue into the A-League pitch invasion last weekend.
Melbourne Victory has been hit with a first set of penalties ahead of its Boxing Day clash with Western United at AAMI Park.
Home matches will only be open to valid club members, and both home and away bays will be cordoned off.
There’ll also be an increase in supporter marshalls at venues.
For Victory away matches in Melbourne, only members and supporters of the home team who’ve already purchased tickets can attend.
The away active supporter bays will be shut.
When Victory plays interstate, away bays will be shut off and only members and supporters of the home team will be able to attend.
The sanctions will be in place until at least January 15, while Football Australia continues its investigations.
Victorian Sport Minister, Steve Dimopoulos, has backed Football Australia’s deliberations.
“We have to make sure that it’s always safe and it’s always an excellent event, and that’s what these authorities are committed to,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Tom Elliott.
“They need to do the best by the game and the best by Victoria.”
