Victorian government can’t guarantee iconic buildings such as City Baths won’t be impacted by Melbourne Metro Rail
The Transport Minister can’t guarantee a number of Melbourne’s iconic buildings won’t be affected by work on the Metro Rail tunnel.
Melbourne City Council fears the City Baths, Town Hall and Princes Bridge are all at risk of becoming structurally unsound, due to the excavation work.
Jacinta Allan said the concerns would be considered as part of the Environmental Effects Statement process.
But she said the project remained ‘critical’ for Victoria.
‘There’s no doubt this is a much-needed project for the city of Melbourne and for the state more broadly,’ Ms Allan said.
