Victorian fires: Greg Hunt to write ‘please explain’ letter to Daniel Andrews

FIRST ON 3AW DRIVE: Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt will write a ‘please explain’ letter to Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews about the state’s dangerous fires.

It has been confirmed the fire threatening homes in the Lancefield area started from a planned burn-off late last week.

Mr Hunt told Tom Elliott he wants to know why there was controlled burn-offs when all weather forecasts were predicting a heatwave.

‘(The weather conditions) couldn’t have been predicted more clearly or more accurately,’ Mr Hunt told 3AW Drive.

‘I’ll be writing to the Premier asking if they will review Victoria’s controlled burn practices to make sure it happens early season when it’s cool.’
