Victoria wins race to make mRNA vaccines
Victoria will be the home of mRNA vaccine production in Australia after the federal government struck an agreement with the state government and the US pharmaceutical giant.
It should be operating by 2024.
As yet, there is no confirmation about where it will be built.
Minister for medical research, Jaala Pulford, said other vaccines, not just COVID-19, would be produced in the facility.
The CSIRO’s health director, Rob Grenfell, told 3AW Breakfast it was welcome news because the pandemic still wasn’t over.
“We will almost certainly need a variant booster,” he said.
“We’re still in for the long haul on this one.”
