Victoria is set to be the big winner from the federal budget
Victoria is set to be the big winner from tomorrow’s federal budget with nearly $8 billion to be promised for new roads and rail lines.
Nearly one-third of the government’s $24.5 billion infrastructure allocation will be spent here.
The Herald Sun is reporting $1.75 billion will go toward the North-East Link, including new tunnels and extra lanes on the Eastern Freeway.
Two new rail lines are earmarked for the south-east — $475 million to link Monash University’s Caulfield and Clayton campuses, and $225 million to electrify the Frankston line to Baxter.
The state government has previously said it wants a tram line, not train line, to link the Monash campuses.
