Unmanned kayak prompts Port Phillip search
Police have been alarmed by the discovery of an unmanned kayak off a Melbourne beach, prompting a wide search to ensure the owner is safe.
The blue and green kayak was found anchored and partially submerged in waters about 150 metres off Sandridge Beach at Port Melbourne.
It was first spotted around 5:20pm.
That prompted a search involving the airwing and water police, as well as the coast guard and SES.
The owner remains unaccounted for.
Police have released images of the kayak in the hope that someone will recognise it.
Anyone who sighted the kayak earlier today or has any information relating to its owner is urged to contact Water Police on 9399 7500 or Triple Zero (000).
