Two Foodbank drive throughs to open in Melbourne as cost of living crisis bites
Foodbank will run two public drive throughs in Melbourne this weekend to help put food on the tables of people struggling with the cost of living crisis.
Anyone in need will be able to drive through and pick up two hampers — one of fresh food, and another of pantry essentials — from sites in Epping and Dandenong on Sunday.
“Everyone in those areas can turn up, no questions asked because we know everyone is doing it tough,” Foodbank CEO Dave McNamara told Jacqui Felgate.
Mr McNamara said Foodbank is seeing many people seek its help who have never relied on charity before.
“People don’t know where to go, for a start, and then people for some reason feel shame or embarrassment,” she said.
“Really, you should look at this is your community is trying to help you. We want to help you so don’t feel ashamed.”
