Two alarming stories highlight serious problems in Victoria’s ambulance service
Neil Mitchell has been alerted to two alarming ambulance stories which occurred in Melbourne in the early hours of this morning.
In one incident, paramedics assessed 19-year-old Holly — who was suffering excruciating abdominal pain —and determined she needed to go to hospital, then called a taxi to take her to The Alfred because there were no ambulances available.
“Maybe you could understand it on a Friday or a Saturday … but three o’clock on a Tuesday — it’s appalling in my books,” her mother Louise told Neil Mitchell.

In another disturbing case, Liz was told to take her sister, who has shingles, to hospital herself because the wait for an ambulance was “at least four or five hours”.
She told Neil Mitchell her sister has now been admitted to hospital, where she’s expected to remain for two days.
