The leader of the Transport Matters Party has shot down a proposal that would see drivers returning to the road after being involved in a serious crash or long break from driving display “R plates” on their vehicle.

“I don’t like it,” Rod Barton told Neil Mitchell.

However, as for the previously mooted “S plates” for senior drivers, Mr Barton maintains there needs to be better checks in place.
